Two officers attempted to stop the car on Bloomfield Avenue around 4:30 a.m., but the driver took off, lost control, veered off the roadway then struck a tree, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office said in a release.
The driver and a passenger were pronounced dead at 9 a.m., while a third occupant was being treated for injuries, the AG's office said.
This investigation is being conducted pursuant to Attorney General Directive 2019-4.
